The Story

A traveler walks his path and stumbles upon a forgotten soul—one who has passed but remains unburied, unable to move on. The deceased had no wealth, no family, no means to secure his own funeral rites. His body lingers in neglect, and with it, his spirit remains bound to the earthly realm, waiting for someone to set things right.

Moved by compassion, the traveler cannot turn away. He takes it upon himself to arrange for the burial, offering what he has - perhaps his last coin, perhaps only his effort - to ensure the departed is laid to rest with honor. A simple act, yet one that carries deep significance: the traveler gives the dead what he could not give himself - peace.

As the final rights are completed and the final words spoken, something shifts in the unseen world. The spirit is freed. But gratitude does not end with release.

Later, when the traveler least expects it, the one he buried returns - not as a ghost, but as a guide. In the form of a crow, the spirit walks beside him, offering wisdom, protection, or even unseen intervention in his time of need. The traveler’s kindness has woven a bond that lingers beyond death.
